Where did you hear that? Race car emergency disconnects are required to be installed in the non-ground side.

Not correct. They can be installed in either the hot or the ground circuit. They must disable the fuel pump, the ignition system, and charging system if so equipped and must kill a running engine......

Would it not make sense to install the switch on the ground cable, either positive or negative depending on your car? Switched off, the battery is then isolated from the frame.
